HIJINX in association with BLIND SUMMIT (UK)
Fred just wants to be part of the real world, get a job, meet a girl. But Fred, being a little cloth puppet, must face incredible prejudice every day. His life begins to spiral out of control when threatened with losing his PLA (Puppetry Living Allowance).
Hijinx, the remarkable company that brings us Meet Fred, specializes in inclusive theater, an ensemble made up of actors with learning differences and actors without learning differences. Darkly funny, yet bitingly direct, Meet Fred addresses our assumptions about people with developmental differences, and ultimately highlights their capabilities to be the real heroes in life and in art. The show works with the parallels between the life of a puppet, and the differently-abled artists who were part of the devising process. The relationship of dependence and interdependence that exists between Fred and his puppeteers mirrors the situation that many people with learning and developmental differences face in their everyday life. The show walks a masterful line between a strong political message, and a hilarity that is all the more ridiculous when seen through the eyes of the puppet hero, Fred.
Contains strong language and puppet nudity.
Sharp, funny and vastly entertaining
